The Shallows

Monday – Oxford Navigate B1+, Read the review of the book “Shallows” from the Internet and in 200-250 words, express your opinion about the book, the internet, the author’s point of view, etc.

Nicholas Carr’s book “The Shallows”: What the Internet Is Doing to Our Brains is about the influence of the Internet on our thinking. The author says that when we read online, we do not concentrate deeply. Instead, we click on links, move quickly from page to page, and try to do many things at the same time. Because of this, our brain changes, and we lose the habit of slow, deep reading.

I agree with Carr in some ways. Today many people spend hours on the Internet, and it is easy to get distracted. Sometimes I also notice that I cannot read long texts with full attention, because I want to check messages or watch short videos. This shows that the Internet really affects how we focus.

But I also think Carr is too negative. The Internet gives us many good things. It helps us learn, find information in seconds, and communicate with friends and people from other countries. We can also read books online or use the Internet for studying. For me, the Internet is not only a problem but also a great tool.

In my opinion, we need balance. We should use the Internet but also spend time reading books or thinking quietly. If we do this, we will not lose our ability to think deeply.
